In-form Sarah and Melissa aiming for another final
Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes are on a mission: to silence the Red Bull Beach Arena crowd tonight.
The Canadian duo reached their seventh semifinal in eight tournaments in their debut season together on the sand with a comfortable victory over Swiss wildcards Tanja Hüberli and Nina Betschart.
Standing in their way to reach a fourth final are home heroes Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst – and Sarah and Melissa can’t wait.
“It would be very eerie to hear the big crowd quiet, but that’s what we’re hoping we can do,” said Humana-Paredes said after the 21-10, 21-12 quarterfinal victory. “It’s something we’re really looking forward to. There’s nothing better than a night match against a home team in the semifinals, it’s going to be wonderful.”
The only tournament this season that the pair haven’t reached the last four was in Moscow, but Sarah can’t wait to meet the Olympic and World Championships under the Rothenbaum floodlights.
“We’ve been waiting to play this team for a while now,” Pavan said. “It’s another semifinal and actually after the final point I turned to Mel and said ‘another semi!’ That’s what we wanted – we know we can reach semifinals and finals and it’s great to get this far.
“It’s exciting to have such a challenge in front of us as well and in this environment it’s going to be even better.”
The big semifinal between Ludwig/Walkenhorst and Pavan/Humana-Paredes begins at 8pm CET on the Red Bull Beach Arena sand. You’d be mad to miss it, so sign-up to BeachStream and don’t miss a dig!
