Victorious Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals champions Nick Lucena and Phil Dalhausser were over the moon to finally capture the elusive title with a brilliant win over Evandro and Andre.

The experienced pair won silver at the Fort Lauderdale Finals two years ago but made up for a disappointing World Championship performance by beating the World Champions in front of a packed Red Bull Beach Arena crowd.

“It’s one of the biggest things in my career,” said Dalhausser. “We caught Evandro on an off day. He made a lot of errors and we got lucky with that. Nick played steady and that was good enough today.

“They rely on Evandro’s serve and he wasn’t hitting in a row today. It’s really satisfying. This is by far the deepest I’ve ever seen out here in the World Tour. Hamburg has been good to us, it’s two for two here.”

Their win was their second on German soil is as many years after the pair won the Hamburg Major 12 months ago.

“Getting a win is always good, but beating the world champions is awesome,” said Lucena. “It doesn’t happen often.

“We were able to side out even if we were scrambling. We kept the pressure on them and Phil did a good job on that matter with his block scoring points. Evandro is the most dangerous server I’ve ever seen and we were fortunate to win. We haven’t lost here, so I’m hoping we can come back next year. We’ve been pretty blessed here.”
