A week after taking their first gold on the World Tour together in Moscow, Americans Sara Hughes and Summer Ross have secured their first victory of the Hamburg Finals with a gritty comeback win over home favorites Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude.

It was the Germans’ first match of the tournament but Sara and Summer were delighted to bounce back after they suffered a defeat on Wednesday.

Now, with a win under their belts inside the Red Bull Beach Arena, the stateside stars are hoping for more success this week to add to their Russian gold last time out.

“It feels amazing to win our first Finals match, and on Center Court, it’s a dream come true,” said Summer. “I feel like I’ve won the lottery but I know I’ve got to focus on the next match!”

Going into the tournament in good form and playing the home favorites on their sand is a tough ask for any team. But the Americans are taking everything in their stride.

“It’s difficult to compose yourselves, especially on the center court,” admitted Sara. “The crowd is crazy and we took a look at each other and said ‘let’s take a deep breath and refocus.’”

Having watched all the other teams play, the wait for Chantal and Julia to play ended in disappointment. However, the German number one seeds go in search of their first tournament victory when they take on European Champions Sanne Keizer and Madeleine Meppelink on the Red Bull Beach Arena at 8pm CEST.
