Although beach volleyball is no stranger to Hamburg thanks to the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of organizer Frank Mackerodt, 2016's beach volleyball extravaganza at the Rothenbaum was the first as a Beach Major Series – as two beach-loving forces combined.

The stadium’s iconic roof structure and 13,000-capacity helped make the 2016 Major Hamburg and the 2017 Hamburg Finals two of the most memorable tournaments of the last two beach volleyball seasons. The famous stadium is steeped in tennis history having hosted hundreds of top-class tournaments, but between August 15-19 the clay court will be replaced by almost 2,000 tons of golden sand!
