Another final for the Vikings!

Anders and Christian edge past home favorites

It's four finals in a row for the Vikings! It's four finals in a row for the Vikings!

Super Scandinavians Anders Mol and Christian Sørum booked their place in a fourth successive final as they came back from losing the second set to beat Germany’s Julius Thole and Clemens Wickler in front of packed Red Bull Beach Arena.

The Vikings lost their unbeaten record to Dutchmen Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen on Friday and were under immense pressure on center court against the home favorites after the Germans had fought back to take the match to a deciding set.

However, the Norwegians never know when they’re beaten, and the duo upped their game to secure their place in the final in their debut appearance at a World Tour Finals.

“It was a huge win,” a relieved but ecstatic Anders said afterwards. “After losing our streak yesterday it was kind of hard to come back and we were also anxious because we knew they are a very, very good team and we lost to them in Espinho.

“The second set was really hard, we didn’t know what we should do against them. In the third set we kept patient and I think my service pressure was better and that was the difference.”

Christian admitted the pair were struggling to combat the Germans’ approach – and the crowd.

“After winning the first set we were like ‘yes, just one more set’, then we lost the second and we were like ‘uh oh’. We were getting a bit tired and they has the fans with them so we starting to worry a bit. But we managed to find a way and Anders came up with some great serves.”

After seeing their 22-match unbeaten run ended, the duo now hope to make it two matches without defeat when they take part in final 8.30pm CEST.

“We don’t become bad players just because we lost one match,” added Anders. “We believe in our team and our volleyball skills even if we lose one game.

“We’ll see how much the next winning streak gets to but it’s about winning tournaments, not streaks, that counts and that’s what we hope to do.”
