Golden boys Anders Mol and Christian Sørum were just happy to take one medal of any color this together this season.

Now they have one silver and, after a breathtaking run of form, four golds after success in each of the last four tournaments of the summer.

Their first silver medal of the season in Itapema in May now seems a world away following their wins in Gstaad, The Hague, Vienna and now here, at the Hamburg Finals.

It’s been the perfect end to a perfect season for the beach volley Vikings who walk away with biggest prize of a season which has got better and better with each passing week.

“I don’t know what’s happened in the last month, the whole journey has been unreal for us,” said blocker Anders who ended the tournament with more blocks than any other player with 37. “Our goal was to take a medal – we did that in Brazil in May and then we had to reach for a higher goal, to take a gold medal. We were going for the golden cowbell in Gstaad and since then we wanted to win everything. We then had the European Championships, Vienna and now here. It’s been amazing.”

That’s not to say the 2018 season has been all fun and games. The Scandinavian stars have worked hard for their success and pinpoint their disappointing finishing in Ostrava as a turning point in their glittering end to this campaign.

“We had a bad tournament and bad draw in Ostrava,” admitted Anders. “It was our first tournament after switching partners in the event in Baden, and it was hard for us to find that rhythm together again as we hadn’t practiced with each other for a month. We were frustrated then, I was really angry because we weren’t playing like we were playing before. But we found a way and we’ve gone on to win four of the most important tournaments of the season – that’s good timing!”

Honored to be on top of the podium for the fourth time in a row, the pair also paid tribute to their backroom team and fellow beach volley Vikings, Hendrik Mol and Mathias Bernsten, Anders’ brother and cousin.

“It’s one big family,” smiled Christian. “We all know each other so well. My father is here, Anders’ father is here, we’re one family working together. Hendrik and Mathias are always watching the stream, they are at a wedding watching now and nothing stops them watching us, and it’s the same for us.”

Congratulations, boys, see you next season!
